When Is a Student Ready?
Is your child ready for lessons? How will you be able to tell? Here are a few tips on skill level and readiness:
Most students are ready for piano lessons by the time they are age 7. This is around the time that most students have learned how to read. They will also be old enough to sit through a lesson and focus to a greater degree. More and more, scientist are beginning to pick up on the great benefits of learning piano at this age (see this link)
Pre-k children may not be ready for lessons – depending upon the child. Most of these children will benefit from early childhood lessons or a preparatory class. However, private lessons can be started at a very young age as the learning pace is slower.
