How to Use the Summer Months to Hone Piano Skills

Avatar Meredith Wesolek | May 25, 2026

Summer is the perfect time to strengthen foundational skills and grow as a well-rounded musician.

1. Focus on Technique and Rhythm
Use this time to refine hand position, finger strength, and overall technique. Practicing with a metronome can greatly improve rhythm and timing, creating a more polished sound.

2. Strengthen Theory and Sight Reading
Dive deeper into music theory to better understand how music works. At the same time, regular sight reading practice helps students learn new pieces more quickly and confidently.

3. Develop Ear Training Skills
Ear training enhances a student’s ability to recognize notes, intervals, and melodies by sound. This skill not only improves musicality but also makes learning and memorizing music easier.
